# Authors

> Attach the people behind a capture, which is most useful for quotes.

## Add an author

A capture can have several authors.

On Mac:

1. Select the capture and open the inspector (`⌘\`).
2. Click **Add** under **Authors**. Or right-click the capture and choose **Add author**.
3. Search your authors, or type a new name and choose **Create author “name”**.
4. To remove one, click the x on its chip.

On iPhone and iPad:

1. Open the capture, tap **More**, then **Authors**.
2. Search, or tap **New author “name”** to create one.

Names ignore case, so “seneca” finds “Seneca” instead of making a second one.

## Authors on quotes

Author names show on quote covers and in the quote reader. When you save a quote with a **Source** that isn't a link, that name becomes its author.

On Mac, when a quote's typed attribution names someone who isn't linked yet, the **Authors** row offers a pill such as **Make Seneca an author**. Click it to link the name. The typed attribution stays.

## Questions

### How do I see everything by one author?

Search for their name. There's no author view or filter.

### How do I fix a misspelled author?

Authors can't be renamed or deleted. Remove it from the capture and add the right name.

### Can I add an author to several captures at once?

No. Add authors one capture at a time.
