# Buy and activate

> Buy Resurf Pro from the app or the website, then paste the key you're emailed to unlock your Mac.

## Standard or Lifetime

Both unlock the same app on up to 2 Macs, and both are one-time payments.

- **Standard** costs less and includes 2 years of updates. You keep your version after that, or renew for another 2 years.
- **Lifetime** includes every future update, so there is nothing to renew.

## Buy from the app

1. Open the workspace menu at the bottom of the sidebar and choose **Upgrade to Resurf Pro**. The same offer is in **Settings → Account** as **Buy a license**.
2. Click the **Buy** button, which shows the price. Checkout opens in your browser.
3. Your license key is shown on the confirmation page and emailed to you.

Buying on your phone works too. The key arrives by email, ready to paste on your Mac.

## Activate your key

1. In the offer, paste the key into **Paste your license key** and click **Activate license**. The card then says “You're Pro”.
2. Or open **Settings → Account**, paste the key into **License key** and click **Activate**.

Keys look like `XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX`. Activation needs the internet once; after that the license is checked at most once a day, and being offline never downgrades it.

## Questions

### It says the key wasn't found.

Check for a missing or extra character, then try again. If you've lost the email, recover your key at resurf.so/license/manage with the address you bought with.

### It says maximum activations.

Your license is already active on 2 Macs. Deactivate one under Settings → Account → Devices on a licensed Mac, or at resurf.so/license/manage, then activate again.

### Do I need an account?

No. The key is the whole license. Your email is only used to send the key and to sign in at resurf.so/license/manage.
