# Layouts and sorting

> Choose how the library shows your captures, how big the tiles are, and what order they come in.

## Pick a layout

On Mac, each space and view keeps its own layout. iPhone and iPad always show a masonry wall, and you choose how many columns it has.

On Mac:

1. In the library, press `⌘L` or click **Display** in the bar at the bottom of the pane.
2. Under **Layout**, pick **Grid**, **Masonry**, **Justified** or **List**. The choice applies to the space or view you're in.
3. Set the layout's options in the right column: **Size**, **Show names** and, for Masonry and Justified, **Gap**. For List, pick **Compact** or **Comfortable**.
4. To use this layout in every space and view, click **Use everywhere** beside the Layout heading. It shows when a space or view has its own layout.

On iPhone and iPad:

1. Tap **Open sidebar**, the first circle in the bar at the bottom, then **Settings**, then **Appearance**.
2. Under **Library**, tap **Columns** and choose **Automatic** or a number.

On Mac, the Inbox has its own **Layout** button in place of Display, with List and Masonry.

## Tile size

On Mac, drag **Size** in Display, pinch on the grid, or press `+` or `−` with no other key while the library has focus. Size works in Grid, Masonry and Justified, not List.

`⌘=` and `⌘−` zoom the whole window, not the tiles. See [Move between captures and zoom](https://resurf.so/guides/next-and-previous).

## Sort and shuffle

On Mac, pick **Newest first**, **Recently updated** or **Random** under **Sort** in Display. **Best match** joins the list while a search is applied. Going to another place in the sidebar resets the sort to Newest first.

To shuffle, press `⇧⌘R` or click the die at the bottom left. While shuffled, the button beside it takes you back to the order you had.

iPhone and iPad have no sort control. Typing a search sorts by best match, and the **Recent** and **Random** search suggestions change the order.

## Questions

### I changed the layout and my spaces didn't change.

Display sets the layout for the space or view you're in. Click Use everywhere in Display to use one layout in all of them.

### Where did Best match go?

It only shows while a search is applied. Without one, the choices are Newest first, Recently updated and Random.

### ⌘= makes everything bigger, not the tiles.

⌘= and ⌘− zoom the whole window. For tile size, press + or − with no other key, drag Size in Display, or pinch on the grid.
