Resurf or mymind? It comes down to who holds the library
mymind is good at removing the work of organization. Resurf gives you more control over the library itself. Both are visual places for ideas and references, but they solve the problem from opposite ends.

Quick answer
Choose mymind if you want a hosted service that automatically understands and groups what you save. Its semantic search, Same Vibe, Smart Spaces and Serendipity features are more mature than Resurf's current meaning-based and visual discovery tools.
Choose Resurf if you want notes, links, screenshots, voice, PDFs, images, video and files in a native Apple library. Resurf stores the source material on your devices, works without a Resurf content account, and lets you inspect the files behind the app.

mymind asks you to organize less
The appeal of mymind is clear. Save something and let the product work out what it is. Images get recognized. Cards pick up useful context. Smart Spaces can collect related material without requiring a filing decision every time.
That approach is especially good for visual references. Same Vibe can move from one image to other images with a similar feel. Serendipity can pull older saves back into view. Top of Mind keeps selected material close. You can also use mymind from a browser or Android device, which Resurf does not support.
If you want the product to hide most of the filing system, mymind is the stronger choice today.
Resurf gives the library a physical home
Resurf starts with a different promise. The working library is already on your device. On Mac, each capture has its own folder with the original material, a Markdown note when needed, and readable metadata. The search index can be rebuilt from those files.
You can keep the library on one device or sync it through your private iCloud database. No Resurf content account sits between you and the material. Resurf's servers do not host the capture library.
Optional AI features are separate from that architecture. They are off by default and use your own OpenAI key. The content needed for the feature goes directly from your device to OpenAI. Capture, browsing, local extraction and ordinary search do not require an AI account.
This matters if the library contains more than disposable bookmarks. A recorded idea, a marked-up PDF, a project screenshot and the original design file can stay together without turning a hosted service into the only useful copy.
Search is the clearest difference today
mymind is ahead when you remember the idea but not the words. Its semantic and associative tools are part of the product now.
Resurf's current search is exact and broad. It searches titles, notes, saved article text, PDF text, words found inside images and screenshots, voice transcripts, comments, tags, Spaces, file names, URLs and other metadata. It also supports color search.
That works well when the clue exists somewhere in the material. It is less helpful when your search uses a different concept from the source. Resurf does not yet ship semantic search or image-similarity search. Semantic retrieval is in development and is not counted as an available feature on this page.
The capture mix is different
mymind is built around a polished set of cards for web material, images, notes and documents.
Resurf puts more emphasis on things you create or notice during the day. A note, quote, color, screenshot, voice recording, PDF, image, video, audio file or arbitrary document can enter through the same capture system. On Mac, you can use a global shortcut, a screenshot shortcut, drag and drop, the menu bar, Services, a browser tab or the Chrome extension. On iPhone and iPad, the share extension saves the item before asking you to organize it.
Voice is a first-class format in Resurf. Recordings keep their audio, transcript and notes together. Transcription can run on the device.
If most of what you save begins on the web, either product can fit. If much of the library begins with your own files, screenshots and voice, Resurf has the broader model.
Two ways to bring something back
mymind's rediscovery happens mainly inside the service. Serendipity and Same Vibe encourage associative browsing. Top of Mind keeps chosen items visible.
Resurf brings back the whole capture. The Resurface widget on iPhone and iPad rotates an older note, link, image, file or recording onto the Home Screen. Shuffle gives you another way to browse without a query. Ask Your Library can answer from the saved material and show the captures it used as sources.
Neither approach is universally better. mymind currently has the richer associative system. Resurf's version is quieter and tied to locally held source material.

Where Resurf is the better choice
Pick Resurf if you want:
- Original material stored on your own devices
- A readable file-based Mac library
- Device-only use or private iCloud sync
- Notes, links, voice, screenshots, PDFs, media and arbitrary files in one model

- A one-time Mac purchase instead of another subscription
Moving from mymind
Resurf does not yet include a one-click mymind importer. Do not cancel or delete a mymind account until you have exported the material you need and checked the result.
Direct import is an important part of making this switch practical. Until it ships, Resurf is easier to evaluate as a new library or with a small test set than as an immediate replacement for a large mymind account.
Frequently asked questions
- Is Resurf a local-first alternative to mymind?
- Yes, if local ownership is the reason you are looking. Resurf covers visual capture, notes, links, documents, media, search and rediscovery on Apple devices. It does not yet match mymind's semantic search or Same Vibe experience.
- Does Resurf organize everything automatically?
- No. New material can sit in the Inbox until you are ready. Resurf supports Spaces, tags and stacks. Optional AI can suggest titles, tags and Spaces, but it does not apply them without your approval.
- Does Resurf need an OpenAI key?
- No. Capture, local search, OCR, document extraction and on-device voice transcription work without one. Ask Your Library and cloud AI suggestions require your own OpenAI key.
- Can I use Resurf on Android, Windows or the web?
- No. Resurf is built for Mac, iPhone and iPad. mymind is the better fit if Android or a full web library is required.
- Where does Resurf keep my data?
- The working library lives on your device. You can keep it local or sync through your private iCloud database. Resurf does not host the capture library on its own servers.
- Is Resurf a subscription?
- No. The Mac app has a free tier and one-time license options. The iPhone and iPad apps are free and unlimited. Check the current Resurf pricing page before buying.
