What AI sends

What each AI feature sends to your provider, and when nothing is sent at all.

When nothing is sent

AI is off until you connect a provider. While AI features is off, suggestions, voice titles, generated notes and the Assistant send nothing.
On iPhone and iPad, no content leaves that device until you tap Allow on it, even if AI was turned on from another device. The key check before Allow sends your key but no content.
With Ollama, requests stay on your Mac.
On-device voice transcription keeps the audio on your device.

What each feature sends

Connecting a provider: your key and a request for its list of models, sometimes with a few short test prompts. No capture content.
Suggest as you capture: for each new capture, its text (up to 12,000 characters), title, tags, link, domain and file name, plus the names and descriptions of your spaces and your custom instructions. Images are sent as the picture when a model that can see images is used.
Voice notes: the transcript, for the title and clean-up. Generate notes sends the transcript too.
Cloud transcription: the audio, to OpenAI only.
Assistant (Mac): the conversation, attached captures, and what it finds in your library. See Assistant.

Turning off Suggest as you capture doesn't stop voice titles, generated notes or the Assistant. Turn off AI features to stop them all.

Where it goes

Requests go straight from your device to the provider you connected, with your key: OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or OpenRouter, or Ollama on your Mac. No Resurf server is in the path. Keys are kept in the system Keychain.

When you connect or test a provider, Resurf may also download a public list of models from models.dev, at most once a day. That request carries no key and no content.

Questions

Can Resurf see my content?

No Resurf server is in the request path. Requests go from your device to your provider, with your key.

Are my space names sent?

Yes. Each suggestion request includes your spaces' names and descriptions, so the model can pick from them.

How do I stop all AI?

Turn off AI features in Settings → AI on Mac, or AI in Resurf's Settings on iPhone and iPad. The switch syncs through iCloud to your other devices.
